Diamond Education

Diamond, the very word evokes the feeling of luxury, legends, style and beauty. Diamonds have existed on this planet longer than dinosaurs.  From ancient kings to modern celebrities, diamonds bind our past with our future. It was believed that diamonds were fragments of stars or tears of god. Diamonds are one of the most precious commodities that the world has ever known. After crushing a ton of ore, around a carat of rough diamonds are extracted.

Owning a diamond is like owning a piece of history right on your finger.  Diamonds grow in the belly of the earth some 100km below the earth’s surface; some are even deposited by meteor strikes. Those kinds of diamonds are called carbonados. When a diamond is cut and polished it sparkles like a thousand suns put together which makes it even more beautiful than beautiful.

While choosing a diamond there are four facets to keep in mind, i.e. Cut, Colour, Clarity & Carat.

Cut: The Fire Begins

Cut is the proportion and angles of the facets of the diamond. The most brilliance is exuberated when all the facets are in sync with each other. Cut is what lets loose the fire in this mystical gem which enlightens your life. The modern round brilliant consists of 58 facets including the culet.

Clarity: The Beauty Within

Almost all the diamonds have inclusions within them and only a fraction are flawless. A diamond's clarity refers to the presence of identifying characteristics on and within the diamond. While most of these clarity characteristics are inherent qualities of the rough diamond and have been present since the earliest stages of the diamond crystal's growth below ground, a few clarity flaws are actually a result of the harsh stress that a diamond undergoes during the cutting process itself.

Colour: The Most Noticeable Aspect

Lesser the colour the better it is. Unlike clothes, colourless diamonds are more desirable than coloured ones unless it’s a fancy colour like pink, blue or intense yellow which are prized for its rare hues. A diamond’s colour is determined on a scale from D to Z, however Lucinda does not carry a colour lower than K.

Carat: The More the Merrier

The weight of a diamond is measured in carats and one carat is equal to 200 milligrams. Larger diamonds, command a premium over smaller diamonds due to its rarity. A 2 carat stone will always cost more than two 1 carat stones of the same specifications.
